amazing weekend vacation in the south!

over labor day weekend, i headed off to the south, to meet up with 2 of my best friends from college! kendall & blake porter moved to birmingham alabama a year and a half ago and i've been wanting to visit for so long! ashley and i got in friday afternoon, and the party started then!
tank, their boxer, was anxiously waiting to greet us at the loft!

how cool is their loft! love it! pictures do not do it justice...

first stop was moe's for some redneck nachos and the BEST WINGS I'VE EVER HAD! i learned that the company started in vail and also has a restaurant in denver. we will be going very soon!

one of their friend's kids, asher. so precious.

reunited at last!!

these were so good! long island lemonades - served in huge mason jars! this + the patio + actually nice alabama weather + my friends = cari very happy!

yummmmmm the wings!

blake got to come hang out after work!

SATURDAY MORNING!
kendall took us to urban standard, where she works. we ate her lovely treats for breakfast! i had the buttermilk oatmeal muffin. delicious!

her blueberry scone!

inside of urban...so cool! i could have stayed all day!

on the walk back to the loft from urban, i documented some of the old signage that was around. this building used to be the tallest building in the south!

2 wig stores on our way from the loft to urban! awesome...

GAMEDAY!
after breakfast at urban, we headed back to the loft where we immediately turned on the football games and started baking & cooking snacks! here is tanky and lola helping!

we made bacon bourbon brownies in the OU pan!

and pioneer woman's bbq jalapeno poppers! oh man, my favorite! we also had a couple of quesos & more dips!

lots of their friends came over to watch the games all day with us.
me, ashley, kendall, amy (from a&m, who is a fellow kappa) and sarah (from georgia)!

a good view of the kitchen!

the lovely porters!

love them. BOOMER!

how cool is their shuffleboard? we played all day!

of course there were OU decorations all over!

the boys representing the big xii (although this is a&m's last year)
blake, matt (from texas, obviously) and ogden (amy's husband)

TEXAS SUCKS! although matt was a very nice texas fan and didn't complain about not watching the game on the stupid longhorn network.

3 tvs - yup! that's how the porters roll on game day! haha

and they made cups! love it

SUNDAY
after a successful game day party, we slept in the following day and went to a late lunch at taylor hicks (american idol winner, season something far ago) new restaurant called Ore. it was so cool inside - great decorations and amazing food! i had the chicken and waffles with bourban maple syrup (sorry, forgot the photo). it was really really good!

loved the quote on the wall!

yes, the south really does have grocery stores called the piggly wiggly (thought that was only in the movie, sweet home alabama).

the outside of their building. the "p" is for the phoenix building

the rest of the day sunday consisted of a photoshoot at urban standard (pics to come later this week) and ordering food in and watching "friends." we had another fabulous southern meal for dinner. i had a baked potato with bbq gyro meat in it and all other kinds of fattening toppings. and cheese fries on the side! sooooo delicious!

MONDAY
monday morning, kendall took us on a little tour of the city. this is a view of downtown! it was gorgeous!

everywhere, there are these amazing old tall trees! so pretty!

and for our last meal in birmy, we headed to flip - a burger boutique with all kinds of crazy burgers. this was one of my favorite meals! i had the lobster roll, kendall had a steak tartare burger and ash got the rBq burger. we also had vodka battered onion rings and fried pickles! am i making you hungry yet?

far right is my lobster roll...

and to top it off, 2 milkshakes - best milkshake i've ever had. one was the nutella milkshake with burnt marshmellows on top and the other was a pineapple upside down cake milkshake. wowsers....those were incredible. i could eat both of them right now!

it was also really cool inside - very modern + hip!

such a wonderful trip to the south. had a blast with my friends; lost of laughs and lots of good fun! i can't wait to go back! thank you kendall, blake, tank & fuscia for having us visit!! one of the best weekends ever! love you all!
