OU/TEXAS 2012!

OU/TEXAS 2012
what a better before-you-get-married getaway than to the fabulous ou/texas weekend! aric had never been to texas before, let alone the amazing-ness that is ou/texas, so i was super excited that the Alumni Association asked if i would come to dallas and help work. that means we got to stay in the fancy omni hotel in las colinas, go to a super fun alumni reception, get a police escort to the game in a huge bus and tickets on the 50 yard line, upper deck! hello, i was excited! of course i had to remind this isn't how you normally go to ou/texas. you usually load up in your friend's SUV, make mixed CD's, stay in a crappy hotel in downtown dallas and a pay a fortune for tickets, food and shopping! not this year - we definitely got to roll in style! lucky aric!

we got to dallas thursday night so friday morning we were on the go! us two aren't big mall shoppers - we like to find the local goods, so leave it to us to find a neighborhood that reminded us a whole lot like denver! we went to bishop arts district and roamed around their super cute boutiques and restaurants.

i've been coveting this branding of this pie shop for awhile now and about had a heart attack when we just happened to walk by it! i had NO idea it was dallas, let alone the neighborhood we decided to walk around! i was like a kid in a candy store looking at their branding {yes, i'm a design dork}.

it all looked amazing, but unfortunately we had just had breakfast and so we weren't hungry enough to get a pie. luckily, we are only 2.5 hours away :)

this shop was right up my alley. a little bit of cards, letterpress items and all sorts of funky gifts. i think i had a smile from ear to ear the entire time!

next up, aric's turn for fun. since he had never been to texas and is a huge history buff, we had to drive by where jfk got shot. he was so intrigued and happy it was too cute. we didn't have time to go into the 6th floor museum, so that's definitely on our list for the next visit.

the view from the grassy knoll.

my super cute fiance!

friday afternoon/night i had to work {really just take photos at our alumni reception} so here we are at our outside party!

my old pal jd was there signing autographs! it was so good to see him!

beat texas button we wore all weekend!

how cool is this? this was in our hotel c/o ou alumni association.

that night we went out in uptown to a super cool outdoor bar called katy trail ice house! we saw our good friend brent and his pal cody!

GAME DAY

alumni had 14 buses and i was captain of bus 9! here we are about to take off with the awesome police escort!

all lanes clear for the sooners!

just arrived at the fair around 9:15am and our first stop is a beer and fletcher's corny dogs! breakfast of champions!

i was too busy yelling my face off at the game i didn't take photos {aric did}, so i have none to share. but we had fantastic 50 yard line seats next to some super annoying texas girls who were the most obnoxious things on the planet. good thing we KILLED so they didn't have too much to say :) love my sooners and so happy aric got to see such a great game like that!

sunday morning right before we checked out, aric looked out our 17th floor window and saw a hawk! it was so close! and even better, it had killed a bird, brought it to our ledge and was just waiting to devour it! GROSS!

if you know me, you know i'm a huge foodie and i'm always looking for fresh, local and hidden gems, so i asked facebook for some options and my friend brittany suggested oddfellows in the neighborhood we were in friday. SOLD! this place was insanely good. the atmosphere was amazing, we got to sit on an outside ledge facing where they made coffee. perfect breezy dallas morning.

we couldn't decide what to get, so aric got a chipotle, egg, cilantro & goat cheese taco; we split the chicken and waffles and i also ordered a gingerbread pancake. TO DIE FOR! and very highly recommended!

after brunch, we headed over to see my old kappa pal brittany whitehead, her husband paul and their 2 week old baby girl lainey! it was such a treat getting to meet her so soon after her birth! how great does tav look after having a child?? seriously, my friends are awesome.

look how precious and tiny!

you can clearly tell i'm in hog heaven!

wonderful wonderful weekend! BEAT TEXAS! can't wait for next year's stomp down!
